Bangla Parliament passes proposal for trying '71 war criminals

Dhaka, Jan 29 (PTI) In a significant move, Bangladesh Parliament today unanimously adopted a proposal for "quick trial" of the 1971 war criminals in line with a poll promise of the ruling Awami League.

"The proposal for quick trial of the war criminals has been adopted unanimously," Speaker Abdul Hamid announced as the private member's resolution, moved by Awami League lawmaker Mahmudus Samad Chowdhury, was approved by voice vote after Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina supported the proposal.
