A proposal for a wine and liquor superstore next to Wegmans flagship supermarket in DeWitt has some local mom-and-pop liquor stores shaken and stirred.
That's partly because the store is associated with the Wegman family, which owns and operates 71 upscale supermarkets -- and has family ties to a similar liquor superstore in Pittsford, near Rochester.
The local liquor store owners say Wegmans might be attempting to skirt a state law that says an individual or business may operate only one liquor store in New York.
