Six months after Northwest Medical Center in Springdale and Bates Medical Center in Bentonville merged, the two hospitals are saving "upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars" in expenses, says Tom O'Neal, chief operating officer of the combined Northwest Health.

Insurance programs have been consolidated, as have materials management areas, O'Neal says.

Physicians at the hospitals still work as two separate staffs; and although there may be future arrangements to focus medical specialities at one of the two hospitals, there is no such plan now, O'Neal says.
