Feb. 3--This is one cool group of microbes.
Not only does it have a great name -- BioTiger -- it has the potential to help clean up the environment and increase oil that's recovered from oil sands.
And it was developed by scientists at the Savannah River National Laboratory.
BioTiger resulted from eight years of extensive work that began at a century-old Polish waste lagoon.
"DOE had originally funded us to work with our Polish counterparts to develop a microbe-based method for cleaning up oil-contaminated soils," said Dr. Robin Brigmon, SRNL fellow engineer.
