Feb. 3--A lone bugler sounded "Taps" outside Millbrook Baptist Church Monday afternoon in memory of former New Ellenton Police Chief Johnny Hamilton, who died Thursday, Jan. 28 after his police cruiser collided with a full-sized truck in the town of Perry.
Hamilton was 55.
Inside the Southside church, several dozen family members, friends, local officials and law enforcement officers gathered to bid the chief a final farewell.
Those who reflected on his life spoke not only of the type of man he was but his dedication to the police department.
