WASHINGTON -- The dawn of a new administration and a new Congress has raised hopes that landmark biogenerics legislation might be passed in 2009, the year that marks the 25th anniversary of the Hatch-Waxman Act, which gave birth to the generic drug industry.
Other signs have also emerged that the issue is garnering public attention. In November, just weeks after Barack Obama was elected president, the Federal Trade Commission held a roundtable on "Emerging Health Care Competition and Consumer Issues," and the future of biogenerics was one of those issues.
