The size and power density of fluid power systems and components used in mobile equipment have helped hydraulics establish a clear dominance over other types of power transmission technologies. But for all of their advantages over mechanical and electric motor systems, the efficiency of hydraulics systems is relatively low, which is a significant disadvantage in an era of generally increasing fuel costs.
