The recession is causing everyone to cut costs, and large retreaders like Jim Parkhouse are running their dealerships as efficiently as they can and waiting for the slowdown to run its course.
"People are watching what they're spending their money on,'' said Mr. Parkhouse, CEO of Bell Gardens, Calif.-based Parkhouse Tire Inc. "They're not buying tires if they don't need to, whether it be new or retread. Fleets are cannibalizing a little bit. If they've got (equipment) sitting, they're going to take (tires) off before they buy something, whether it be new or retread.''
