LONDON -- Kazakstan's much-trumpeted oil industry privatizations are beginning to fall by the wayside -- taking Amoco Corp., among others, with them -- as newly created national oil company Kazakh Oil starts to make its presence felt.
Kazakh Oil, headed by former oil and gas minister Nurlan Balgimbayev, last week canceled two tenders that had been announced by the state property com- mittee, which is being phased out as part of a government restructuring.
First to go was the tender for 53% of the Atyrau refinery, which had been awarded to British Virgin Islands-registered Essex Refinery Corp.
