Sam Carter, 89, Birmingham, Ala., died May 5, 2007. Carter began his 42-year career at American Cast Iron Pipe Co., Birmingham, Ala., in 1941 when he joined the company as a research metallurgist. In 1973, he was named vice president and works manager, a position he held until his retirement in 1984.
Carter received the McFadden Gold Medal in 1960, and in 1974 he delivered the Hoyt Memorial Lecture. He received the Ductile Iron Society Annual Award in 1966. He was named Alabama Foundryman of the Year in 1984.
Kenneth Daniel, Birmingham, Ala., died July 1, 2008. He was 95.
