NEW YORK - Hair care is one of the most rapidly evolving, highly competitive product segments in the toiletries category.
Out of the 25 areas counted among toiletries 11 involve hair care. While chain drug stores have long had a commanding presence in the category, aggressive pricing by discounters and supermarkets has reshuffled market share to the detriment of cling chains. The shampoo segment, in particular, has been an area where chain chug stores have seen their market share erode.
