TAIPEI, Feb. 10 Asia Pulse - Taiwan's labor officials admitted Monday that they are powerless to stop the increasingly common practice of forcing workers to take unpaid leave taken by private enterprises to lower their costs during the global economic slowdown.
The officials at the Department of Labor Standards under the Cabinet-level Council of Labor Affairs (CLA) told reporters that although they have been busy handling complaints about unpaid leave since the fourth quarter of 2008, they have not been able to nail any businesses for violating the labor law.
