Article: Enamel paints a glossy picture for spring: apparently, old is new again. With its vibrant colors and whimsical designs, the centuries-old style of enamel jewelry is making a bold statement this spring.(on topic:color)

Throughout history, artisans and craftsmen have used enameling--the process of fusing powdered glass to metal under high heat--to craft boldly colored jewelry and objects d'arte. Although it was used as early as the 11th century, the style as we know it today developed in the late 15th century. It was then, in the French town of Limoges, that the Penicaud family developed a unique method of using enamels--blending the hues, instead of using wires or metal to separate the color. More than 600 years later, history's inescapable destiny to repeat itself has resulted in a strong comeback of enamel jewelry.
