Hundreds forced to abandon cars
THE wintry weather looks set to linger until the middle of the week as parts of the country were blanketed by up to six inches of snow yesterday, leading to travel chaos.
Hundreds of desperate motorists abandoned their cars in Co Donegal as heavy snow falls, some of the worst for a decade, made for treacherous driving conditions.
The local county council's fleet of 23 gritters, attached with snow ploughs, were dispatched. However, some of these ended up getting stuck themselves.
