At Forest City Gear, Roscoe, IL, the "I" in ROI represents advancing technology. The 40-employee company ships its gears to more than 800 customers and boasts that 20% of its sales are exports. "Our profit margin currently is two to three times what most companies consider a good gross profit margin," says president Fred Young. "We regularly invest 30% to 35% of our gross sales in new equipment each year."
