While most custom mixers will look at their sales figures from virtually any market to tell you how lousy business is right now, Wayne County Rubber Inc.'s Andy Berkowitz has his own gauge.
He just asks his brother, a FedEx Corp. employee.
"If the trucks aren't moving, nobody's buying anything, the sales coordinator and head of research and product development said. "If my brother tells me that business is bad, then business is bad.
And just how bad is business? Many custom mixers project business to be off 20 percent or more this year.
