Apr. 29--In a move that threatens to irritate as many wounds as it heals, State Farm Insurance is sparing the jobs of 29 sales agents due to be fired this week.
At the same time, the nation's largest property-and-casualty insurer is reaffirming its plans to jettison 24 other sales agents Thursday in the biggest purge in the company's 75-year history. At least eight of State Farm's imperiled agents work in Northern California.
Bloomington, Ill.-based State Farm had delivered termination notices March 31 to all 53 of the agents after the carrier learned of their participation in a fund-raising drive for a small Nebraska college. Management viewed ...
