Living in the remote county of Argyll in the Western Highlands of Scotland, we have more power cuts than most. Storms and high winds repeatedly blow down power cables or trees crash onto power lines, and it seems that every month we have a power cut, which can last for anything up to a day. Suddenly, we are plunged into darkness and, worst of all, our PCs immediately die. As my wife and I both work from home, the sudden loss of work and power is more than a hindrance - it can cost us thousands of pounds.
