PHILADELPHIA _ Using a novel genetic vaccine, University of Pennsylvania scientists have been able to protect two chimpanzees from infection with the AIDS virus.
The DNA vaccine is made with the genetic material of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which causes AIDS.
The findings, reported in Wednesday's issue of Nature Medicine, are the first to demonstrate that a DNA vaccine can confer protection against HIV in a primate.
