Nuclear power production to reach 6,000 MW by 2009-end

Mumbai, Feb 14 (PTI) -- As India's civil nuclear industry enters a new phase, the energy-starved country can look forward to having 6,000 MW atomic power by the year-end from the indigenous plants.

The 17 plants, currently operating below 40 per cent of their capacity, will be able to operate at 90 per cent load factor in the next 12 months with the availability of uranium from France and Russia, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Power Jairam Ramesh said.
