NEW YORK -- Despite strong comp store sales and successful editorial exposure, Sara Lee Corp. reportedly has decided to sell Mark Cross.
Sara Lee purchased the Mark Cross trademark in 1993, and since then, the business has been managed by Sara Lee's Coach unit.
Since late February, when Sara Lee quietly told Mark Cross personnel it was on the block, Sara Lee has fielded over 16 inquiries from parties interested in purchasing the luxury brand, sources said. It is said the company is only interested in a cash deal, and won't consider stock swap or leveraged buyout scenarios.
