Membrane bioreactors (MBR) with submerged membrane modules offer two main advantages in reclaiming wastewater: a significantly improved effluent quality and a substantially smaller footprint. Aside from major applications in industrial and municipal wastewater treatment, MBR technology has been implemented in a number of small-scale municipal applications. One example is the Bega Valley Sewerage Program in New South Wales, Australia.
