COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--May 6--Western Pacific Airlines fired the first shot over the weekend in what is expected to be an intense fare war in Denver, but the carrier is holding its fire in Colorado Springs.
When WestPac's Denver fares were loaded into computerized reservations systems late Saturday, many of its one-way, short-notice fares were about half United's fares for travel with comparable terms and restrictions. The carrier did not change its Colorado Springs fares, which are still lower than the fares it is using to introduce its Denver flights.
But that discrepancy could lead to higher fares in Colorado Springs, because WestPac plans ...
