BISHKEK, Feb 19 Asia Pulse - In 2008, Kyrgyzstan's negative trade balance came to US$2.416 billion.

The volume of imports was three times greater than the volume of exports.

According to the National Statistics Committee, in 2008 Kyrgyzstan's exports came to US$1.641 billion, while imports amounted to US$4.057 billion.

According to Igor Chudinov, the Kyrgyz Prime Minister, such situations as this, when a country has a negative trade balance, are always very risky.

Therefore, Chudinov entrusted the government with the task of working out a program for the development of import-substituting production.
