HERMANUS, South Africa--May 9--South Africa's wine industry, which exported its production surreptitiously for a few cents a bottle during the apartheid years, now can't keep up with demand.
Exports are up, prices are soaring and domestic connoisseurs, accustomed to fine wines on the cheap, can no longer afford their favorite vintages--if they can find them.
