May 15--Patients and their families may not have noticed, but since last fall the caregivers and administrators of the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinic have been braced for mourning.

When it became an official division of Fairview Health System, the University staff faced the loss of their organization's identity, as they knew it -- an identity steeped in academic and research tradition, fired by sophisticated medicine and tested by the toughest cases.
