Squid: Fact or Fiction?
Squid are truly amazing creatures! They live in every ocean of the world. Long ago fishermen thought squid were mermaids. Others thought they were sea monsters with hundreds of powerful arms that could drag people and ships under the sea.
There are about 375 different kinds of squid. Some look like they are covered with colored jewels. Others glow in the dark. Some can even squirt glowing ink! Squid come in all sizes. Most squid are less than 60 centimeters (2 feet) long. The smallest squid is about the size of your big toe (about 2 centimeters or less than 1 inch).
