JOOST van der Westhuizen's 38th birthday will be one he always remembers - for all the wrong reasons.

The former Springbok scrumhalf and his family last night had a quiet celebration after a week-long media frenzy over the now infamous sex tape of a man resembling him and an anonymous blonde stripper cavorting intimately.

He hasn't acquitted himself too well. His defence initially was based on his telling a newspaper "my piel is nie so lank so daai s'n nie" (my penis is not as long as that man's) and that he didn't wear socks or briefs like the man in the video.
