An $8 billion alleged investment scheme unraveled last week when the Securities and Exchange Commission charged Robert Allen Stanford, chairman of the Stanford Financial Group,with alleged fraud. Coming on the heels of the alleged Ponzi scheme engineered by Bernard Madoff, this was another high-profile beat-down for the hedge fund sector.
