FORMER policeman Marius van der Westhuizen knew his life was unravelling in the months leading up to the night he shot and killed his three children, but he was too afraid to take time off to rest because of his overwhelming work load.
Van der Westhuizen told the Cape High Court last week that he realised about five months before the shooting in July 2006 that he had become "snappy" and that his behaviour, especially towards his wife Charlotte, with whom he had frequent arguments, was becoming "irrational".
"I knew I needed help. I wanted to go for anger management classes."
