PHILADELPHIA - Chris Lowe's two free throws with 2 seconds left saved the University of Massachusetts men's basketball team from another gut-wrenching defeat as the Minutemen escaped the Palestra with a 70-69 win over St. Joseph's.
Tony Gaffney then batted away St. Joe's Hail Mary pass as the Minutemen (10-15, 5-7 Atlantic 10) held on.
"I'm a confident player. I just wanted to knock them down," Lowe said. "Going to the free-throw line is all about confidence. Today I was confident and just knocked them down."
