DALTON, Ga. -- While the lion's share of machine-made rug sales have been in polypropylene, wool may be on the comeback trail.
At the lower price points, wool rugs become a competitive step-up product from high-end polypropylene. For high-end retailers, machine-made wool rugs become value-oriented competition to handknotted rugs.
Most of the new machine-made wool lines will retail from $250 to $800 for 6-by-9 size. These rugs are being aimed at a niche market that is above the rough-and-tumble world of the mass market and below the rarefied atmosphere of handmade Oriental rug specialists.
