Last month, Harvest Select Catfish became the world's first catfish producer to receive Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification for its farms and. processing plants, while Thai Union Frozen Products became Thailand's first shrimp producer to earn three-star BAP certification for its hatcheries, farms and processing plants.
The certification ensures that seafood producers meet the environmental, social and food-safety standards developed by the Global Aquaculture Alliance. The BAP are enforced by the Aquaculture Certification Council through third-party auditors who conduct site inspections, effluent sampling and procedural and record reviews.
