* Japanese games sales value fell by almost eight per cent year-on-year during 2008

* The fall in market was driven by the decline of DS and PS2 markets

* Hardware sales volume for both PS3 and Wii fell, barely two years after launch of the platforms

Software

Whilst the sales value of TV console and PSP games increased in 2008, this was not enough to offset the decline of the older Sony PS2 and Nintendo DS market. DS software value realised a decline of 26 per cent and PS2 games sales shed around half of their value during the year.
