Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer told financial analysts Tuesday that the company did not anticipate an economic recovery any time soon but would use the situation to build market share.
"We are going to compete for share," Ballmer said at the company's midyear strategic update in New York City. "Share, share, share, share.
"Even in a down economy, maybe especially in a down economy, we can take share."
At the same time, Ballmer said that the company would continue to "manage costs intensely."
