DENVER _ Evidence linking Timothy McVeigh to the Oklahoma City bombing could have been contaminated at the FBI crime lab, a lab supervisor testified Tuesday.
Voicing the same concerns that led him to demand a probe of lab procedures in late 1995, agent Frederic Whitehurst told jurors that parts of the lab were contaminated with explosives residue, and that some agents did not take proper precautions when handling evidence.
Moments later, under cross-examination, Whitehurst's confidence crumbled. Stammering under a barrage of stinging questions from prosecutor Beth Wilkinson, Whitehurst said finally: ``I have no knowledge of any contamination.''
