Article: ISE CHEMICALS BOOSTING PRODUCTION CAPACITY FOR IODINE IN U.S.

TOKYO, Feb 27 Asia Pulse - Ise Chemicals Corp. (TSE:4107) is taking steps to increase its production capacity for iodine in the U.S., even as it idles a new factory in Japan because of a decline in domestic demand.

In Japan, the iodine sold by Ise Chemicals is used mainly for LCD televisions, so the sudden drop in demand for flat-panel TVs has pulled the rug out from under a new factory that just started up in July.

But in the U.S., the iodine made by subsidiary Woodward Iodine Corp. is sold for X-ray contrast media, agrichemical intermediates and feed for dairy cows, and demand, especially for X-ray contrast media, is expected to grow.
