According to the American Cancer Society (ACS, 2008), one American dies of melanoma every 62 minutes. Estimates for the year 2008 show that there will be 116,500 new cases of melanoma in the United States and 8,420 melanoma-related deaths (ACS, 2008). Non-invasive melanoma will account for 50,020 cases and 62,480 cases will be considered invasive (ACS, 2008).
