St. John's 4, Austin Prep 3
Senior Charlie Scavone turned aside 53 shots, and the ninth-seeded Pioneers struck three times in the second period and held off the eighth-seeded Cougars in a Division 1 North first-round game at O'Brien Rink in Woburn.
Sophomores Ryan O'Toole and Keith Kelly and junior Tom Krysil connected in the second period to provide a 4-1 lead for St. John's, which faces Arlington Catholic in a quarterfinal Saturday at a time and site to be determined.
