Article: WORLDCOM, SEMBCORP AND SMRT FORM CONSORTIUM TO BID FOR SECOND TELECOM LICENSE IN SINGAPORE

SINGAPORE, May 30 /PRNewswire/ -- WorldCom, Inc., SembCorp Ltd and Singapore MRT Ltd (SMRT) announced today that they have joined forces to enter a joint bid for a Public Basic Telecommunication Services License ("the License") to be issued by the Telecommunication Authority of Singapore in 1998.

The three companies, who have been in close discussions for over a year, bring together complementary strengths, which combined create a Consortium that can be a significant telecommunications competitor in the region.
