Introduction
In 1989, the world rejoiced as the fall of the Berlin Wall marked the end of an era of oppression for much of Eastern Europe. In the ensuing years, staggering changes have taken place in many areas of the world -- the institution of market economics, free expression of speech, and open tolerance of religion.
