A new exhibition at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum gives visitors a rare glimpse into the socialite's travels through Asia in 1883 and 1884 - traced through scrapbooks, an assortment of colorful curios, Japanese screens and a large bronze Buddha from China.
"Asia was for Gardner, I think, a touchstone," said curator Alan Chong. "What we hope to reveal is her personality, her interests and her moving descriptions of how people experienced religion."
