The leopard came onto the branch and stood in perfect sunlight. It was just after five in the afternoon, the sun still a few points over the horizon, but low enough to reach under overhanging limbs and bathe the cat in a golden glow. He gazed this way and that, and then his yellow eyes seemed to lock on our blind, as if he was peering into our souls. And then he proceeded to the bait, and it was as if time was standing still.
That's the way it's supposed to be. That's the way it was with my most recent leopard--I was fortunate to see the great cat in perfect light, to have time to appreciate him before the crash of the shot.
