In the March 5, 2009, issue of Nature, researchers from the University of Minnesota reported new insights into the way that HIV establishes itself once it has breached the mucosal barrier. They also described a way to prevent such infection that, for reasons that are social and economic as much as scientific, may be the best shot at preventing HIV transmission in many of the patriarchal countries where HIV ravages worst.
