Middle East refiners are gearing up to meet rising demand for oil products in the Far East and at home. Iran's new Bandar Abbas refinery is due to come on stream in the next few weeks, the first of a wave of expansion projects to meet this demand and upgrades to improve the yield of the lighter products most in demand, notably middle distillates and gasoline.
These projects take in both oil-exporting states like the Iran and the Gulf Arab countries and those which are mainly consumers, like Jordan, Morocco and Pakistan.
