Jun. 11--Sprint is building on its "dime-a-minute" long-distance campaign by launching a new service plan that allows East Bay residents to make a local call without having to pay an extra charge.
On Tuesday, the Kansas City, Mo.-based long-distance carrier unveiled a new $20-a-month plan that covers local calls made around the Bay Area. The plan covers calls which other local carriers such as Pacific Bell and GTE California classify as a toll call. It also expands the area considered to be a local call, Sprint spokesman Paul Wescott said.
