The fact that our auto insurance would not cover damages incurred in Albania was reason enough for us not to cross the border. And that was fine, since we were feeling adventurous enough and satisfied with Croatia ... until we met up with two young Swiss from Canton St. Gallen who were driving north after a tour of the Balkans.
They had the most to say about Albania; in fact, they raved all evening about what a surprising and unforgettable experience it had been. So, as the weeks wore on, we found ourselves heading south toward Albania, as if drawn by their words.
