Jun. 18--The Tri-City Herald will soon have a new leader, corporate executives announced Tuesday. Ian Lamont, the newspaper's general manager, will take over as publisher Aug. 1.
He will replace Jack Briggs, who spent three decades as a Herald reporter and editor before being named publisher of the 40,000-circulation newspaper in 1991. Briggs, 64, whose career at the Herald spans 37 years, is retiring.
"Jack and Ian have been a great team," said Gary Pruitt, president of McClatchy Newspapers Inc., the Herald's parent company. "Ian is ready to fly solo."
