The European Commission definitively adopted, on 6 March, a regulation making it compulsory to label the origin of virgin and extra virgin olive oil. This measure, which aims to prevent consumers from being misled, will enter into force on 1 July. "Different agricultural traditions and varied extraction and blending practices mean that the taste of olive oils from different countries can be very distinct," said the agriculture commissioner, explaining this decision.
