New investigation results, 'Reorganization of sleep architecture after surgery for OSAHS,' are detailed in a study published in Acta Oto-Laryngologica. "Genioglossus advancement and hyoid suspension (GAHM) plus uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) can decrease the apnea hypopnea index (AHI) and arousal index, especially respiratory-related arousals. Correspondingly, sleep architecture is reorganized, which is expressed postoperatively as an increase in slow wave sleep and a decrease in lighter sleep," scientists in People's Republic of China report (see also Sleep Apnea).
